Keep Fit Apps.

Sporty Pal – I used to use this on my old Windows Mobile phone and was gutted when it wasn’t available on the iPhone, but finally it was released in November of last year. This is a very useful app if you run, cycle, walk or roller blade. Once started it looks at your position using the inbuilt GPS and then tracks your progress as you exercise. Once you have finished it tells you the distance you have travelled as well as the time taken. You can also upload the data to the Sporty Pal website and look at the route you have taken, look at your best period of exercise, look at the gradient and probably a lot more!

Nike Plus – This app is built into the iPhone but requires a further purchase to make it work. If you buy a Nike transmitter and place it in your Nike trainer (or if you don’t have Nike trainers you can buy a carrier for it) you can then use the Nike Plus to measure you runs. Although I have a transmitter and have used this a little bit, it is too limited for my liking. The only saving grace is that you have some sporting personalities (eg Lance Armstrong and Paula Radcliffe) who come out with some positive comments if you achieve certain goals (longest distance, fastest time etc).

100 Pushups - I downloaded this as it was ranked quite highly in the App store. The basics of the app are that it will enable you do 100 pushups within 6 weeks. Well the first time I used it, it asks how many press ups you can do. I started doing some press ups and managed 14. The program then tells you to do some more push ups with a sxty second break between each set. From memory I did the original 14, then another 14, then 16 then 12 then another 12. This almost killed me and for the next 2 days I could barely move my arms let alone continue with the program. Needless to say, I haven't used the program since!
