Media Air Video - a brilliant app that allows me to watch any video file from my computer (or iTunes playlist) over 3G or wifi. I use this a lot in conjunction with a dock connected to my TV so that I can watch downloaded content from the internet on my main tv. TV Catchup – okay, strictly speaking not an app but an internet site. Did you want to watch TV where ever you are – this lets you watch any of the freeview channels live (well about a 3 second delay). You can watch over wifi or even 3G. You need to go open up safari and go to: iPhone.tvcatchup.com and create a free account. Once you are logged in, you can simply watch the channel of your choice. Tip – when you have safari open, press the + button and then ‘add to homescreen’ – this creates an icon on your iPhone. Flixster – If you like films, then you need this app. It lets you view all the current trailers (and a lot of old film trailers) as well as giving you the locations of your nearest cinema and the times that the films are showing. It will give you a synopsis as well as a Rotten Tomatoes score. Remote – if you have iTunes on your computer and you use it to listen to music in your house then Remote is great. It enables you to control your iTunes account on your iPhone – from playlists to volume. Sky+ - if you have a sky plus or sky HD box then this app allows you to remotely record any tv programs – quite useful if a friend tells you about a program when you are out and about, and ideal if you have ever thought “damn, wish I had set x to record”. SoundHorn – have you ever been in a pub and wondered what music is playing? If so, then this is the app for you. After listening to a piece of music, it comes back within a few seconds giving the name of the song, the artist and even the lyrics. |
