Shopping Apps

Red Laser – have you ever been shopping and wondered if the product you are about to buy is a bargain or a rip off? This app will let you scan the barcode of a product and then it checks the internet to try and find the cheapest price. A very useful app and it has certainly saved me money.

Voucher Codes – a very new app so haven’t had a chance to test it properly. The idea is very good – you can open up the app and see what discounts are available from local retailers / restaurant. As an example, around me at the moment, H Samuels (Jewellers) are offering £5 if you spend more than £50 and Dorothy Perkins are offering 20% off for spending over £40 – great deals if you are planning to buy anything at either shop. The big disadvantage (to me) is that there is no way of allowing for local independent businesses to offer a discount.

Ebay – well if you use ebay, this needs to introduction – it is simply a mini version of ebay that is easy to use.

Amazon – this is not just what you would expect (ie a mini site of Amazon like the ebay app). This has a really cool feature called Amazon Remembers. Lets say that you are round someone’s house and they have a nice cup and saucer. This app enables you to take a picture so that you can remember what it looks like. But even better than that, it will then search through its database and matches the photo you have taken to pictures in its database. It then emails you what it can find with links to the product and the costs. So far it has come up with a 75% accuracy rate.
