Following on from my cycling, I did quite a bit of reading about cycling. I find to my dismay that there was potential (and I must stress the word potential) to get osteoporosis if cycling was the only form of exercise. I decided therefore to take up an impact form of exercise. Whilst I would love to play football or rugby, because of my lifestyle (often out in the evening) this was not practical. I do enjoy squash, but I was getting a few knee problems as this is (ironically enough) too impacting for me to continue. So one day, i figured that I would try running. I haven't really run since I was at school (where I represented my school in the mile). But I thought that since I could cycling for hours on end, or go on the cross trainer at the gym for ages, I presumed that I should be able to run as well. I went to David Mobbs Sport on Regent Street and got fitted for a nice pair of Asics. WARNING - if you are interested in running, you must, must must, get fitted for some proper running shoes. These can be purchased for between £50 - £100 but are essential if you don't want to do yourself any damage. And then I started running every few days. I also found out that there was an East Coast run of 10 kilometres that was taking place in October 2009 that started just outside my house in St Georges Park. I decided that I would like to participate and since it was to take place on my wedding anniversary, I would do it in aid of Motor Neurone Disease (which my wife's mother had died of). I trained by running around Yarmouth and also running to work on some occasions. I completed the course in just over 58 minutes in a fancy dress costume and raised several hundred pounds for charity. At the beginning of 2010 I set myself some goals: To run 10km followed by a 20km cycle ride (completed) To run 26 miles To run 10km in under 55 minutes (completed) To cycle 100 miles
